Last night at the famed Jungle City Studio’s in New York City, Queenbridge most famous duo, The Infamous Mobb Deep held a listening session for their new album, aptly titled The Infamous Mobb Deep.
The setting could not have been better, with drinks flowing, food catered from Eddie Huang‘s BaoHaus, new Mobb Deep bumping out of the speakers, and a view of New York City that is pretty much unparalleled in the world of recording studios. Havoc spent a lot of time where he is most comfortable, behind the boards; but both he and Prodigy were in great spirits, mingling with the crowd of listeners and definitely vibeing along to the new project which they will reveal to the world on April 1st.
As far as the music goes, what we heard was strong. The most talked about track “Legendary” which features Bun B & Juicy J and is co produced by Havoc & Boi-1da lives up to it’s title, to say the song is “big” isn’t even really doing it justice. The album is also laced with that classic grimey feel that you’ve come to love from these 2 legends in the hip hop game, a track I beleive is called “Blood on the ground” is sure to make you head nod back and forth uncontrollably.
A full track list will be released in the next few days but another interesting highlight is that one of the few features on the album is a track featuring Sony/Red recording label mate and NY torchbearer Mack Wilds. Production is handled by Havoc, !LLMIND, Boi-1da (who co produced two tracks) and of course The Alchemist (who produced the albums final cut).
Our own Walldoe captured a real genuine moment when Hav & P opened the album for the first time. Watch HERE
For me the highlight of the night came when they played the second disc from the new album, titled The Infamous Sessions which includes never before heard songs/remixes. The sessions start off with a version of “Eye for an Eye” featuring Nas, Raekwon, & Ghostface Killah. Here is a clip of Ghostface’s ridiculous verse from the remix, which he later used it on “Real Live Shit Remix” a track no ones really heard..
