Will P’s latest work have you wanting more?
Master P, Master P. The big homie is not making us say UNHHH anymore (or anything else for that matter), but not one person can deny his success and impact in the rap game. For over 20 years Percy Miller has cranked out the tunes and with his 2014 release The Gift, Return of the Ice Cream Man (hosted by DJ Swamp Izzo), the New Orleans rapper proves that he can still hold his own on tracks with some of the hottest acts to date.
Return of the Ice Cream Man only contains two tracks where you can hear Master P spittin’ dolo. The mixtape’s other 19 songs all have features, including some killer bars from the likes of The Game, Yo Gotti, Alley Boy, Fat Trel & Nipsey Hussle. Even Lil Romeo Maserati Rome lends his vocal skills, starting on the opening track. With a beat from Jaymison Beverly that is strikingly similar to “Trophies” by Drake (produced by Hit Boy), “The Game Chose Me” prepares you for a modern take on the classic southern rap Master P is known for. If you’re sitting back listening to the tape thinking to yourself “Damn, this sounds so familiar,” you’ve definitely heard it before, no doubt about it. Quite a few of these tracks are on his 2013 album The Gift, but most were renamed and then added on to his latest collective.
Though you might not be checking for the No Limit Records boss, The Gift, Return of the Ice Cream is not terrible tape. With some heavy production from Drumma Boy, 1500 Or Nothin and J Buc and tracks like “23″ feat. Rick Ross and “Trunk Fulla” with Yo Gotti & Krazy, P. Miller is showing that after all this time, he still knows what it takes to make a hit. Listen yourself below and see if it’s worth the download.
