Chad Coleman talks his role as Tyreese in cable TV’s most-watched, Golden Globe nominated drama, The Walking Dead.
Chad Coleman became The Walking Dead’s breakout star during season three, starring as “Tyreese,” the leader of a small group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse, fighting a daily uphill battle for survival.
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Coleman spent four years serving in the Army as a video cameraman stationed at the Pentagon in DC. After gaining much experience, Coleman made his way to New York, where he starred in a number of Broadway projects, including the critically acclaimed August Wilson production, Come and Gone, alongside Meryl Streep.
Growing up in the foster care system, Coleman devotes time to working with children in similar circumstances and underprivileged communities. Addressing the demands of his rigorous role on The Walking Dead, Coleman stays fit through a regimen of weight training, running and playing tennis.
Off camera, Coleman is a devoted father of two children, Sasha (13) and Caleb (2 months), as well as his German Shepherd, Rocky.
The Source had the chance to have a sit down with Chad and talk about the show, just in time for the season finale.
