Almost there guys.
Jay-Z’s Magna Carta album just dropped. Or did it? Still with 4 days left until the fateful July 4th release date, we already know–some by heart–the lyrics to a good portion of the album. #NewRules? We just want new music. And while it seems apparent that we won’t be getting a single from MCHG before it drops, these previews actually serve as a nice little indication as to what we can expect from Jay. And considering the circumstances, and the people involved in it, the bar is set very high for this LP. And judging by the words that never really get written on paper, we’re in for a good one. Meanwhile, its BET Weekend, and for the first time in a long time, the Black Entertainment Television’s celebratory three days has drawn an impressive list of A-listers, and given us quite a few exclusives. Hit-Boy leaves G.O.O.D. Music, Travi$ Scott was in the studio with Jay-Z? Do tell. In the whirlwind that is the industry, one thing’s for sure, a few remain at the epicenter, and nothing happens without their metaphorical say-so. Kendrick Lamar is slowly becoming a part of that, as he has–and I quote–an “over the top” performance scheduled as one of BET’s headliners tonight. Jay-Z comes out to perform BDKMV remix? Does he debut new music? Brings out 50 Cent and Dr. Dre? Wait, he did that already. Either way, as all these year defining things happen, don’t forget everything else that’s happening. J. Cole might outsell Kanye in the second week, and that’s no small-time occasion.
