Check your Metro North schedule before you get on the train

Commuters coming into the city via the Metro North–which passes directly through East Harlem on its way into midtown–may be severely displaced today, as a reported explosion in an East Harlem apartment building has indefinitely delayed all Metro North to and from Harlem due to a police investigation.

Witnesses attest to hearing a huge “boom”, indicating the explosion, at around 9 this morning, neighbors say they felt the whole building shaking. The ensuing fire sent piles of billowing smoke into the sky, to the point that it could be viewed by top floor residents in midtown.

The investigation is currently happening, we’ll update you when we know more.

UPDATE: ABC is reporting that 1 person has died, and 16 were injured in the explosion and the ensuing fire.
