Tinashe plans to own 2014
After a successful release of her mixtape Black Water last year, Tinashe is back and preparing for her upcoming RCA Records debut. In fact, the 20-year-old songstress from Los Angeles has actually been pretty busy. She began her career as a member of a girl band called The Stunners and then began acting in 2000, making appearances alongside actors such as Tom Hanks and Whoopi Goldberg. She even starred in the 2006 acclaimed drama Akeelah and the Bee. Six years later and after the girl group split up, Tinashe dropped not one but two mixtapes, In Case We Die and Reverie. Proving herself both consistent and sonically attractive, physically too, she caught the attention of RCA Records, the rest is history.
Fast forward to present day, Tinashe is making moves with the big boys. For her debut single “2 On,” she connects with DJ Mustard who has been bombarding the game with ratchet anthems including T-Pain’s ”Up Down (Do This All Day),” Ty Dolla $ign’s ”Paranoid,” and Kid Ink’s ”Show Me.” She also gets a verse from Schoolboy Q, the TDE spitter who’s debut album Oxymoron is highly anticipated and set to drop next month. So yeah, the song is dope, and not because of the dynamic collaboration with these two distinguished hip-hop dudes but because Tinashe holds her own with her tantalizing voice.
