Introducing Tofu to Chipotle!
Chipotle hasn’t introduced a new item to their famous menu in 20 years, until the recent birth of “Sofritas”. Industry insiders gathered at a private restaurant in New York City, Monday March 4th to celebrate the release of their first ever vegetarian tofu offering.
Premiering in Boston, Washington D.C & New York, the dish features popular Oakland, CA tofu from Hodo Soy Beanery. The restaurant’s culinary manager described the goal as making the tofu taste, “as good, if not even better than meat”.The chili like tofu is mixed with a blend of Mexican spices that party goers say, combined tastes like actual meat. Consumers can order Sofritas as a meat offering, similar to the chicken, steak and barbacoa already offered by the famous restaurant.
After being tested for a year, customers will now begin to see the organic tofu in restaurants nationwide. Lastly chipotle lovers, Sofritas will be the same price as the beloved chicken burritos, tacos, salads and bowls. If you decide to try it out, let us know how you like it!
