The 2014 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk contest featured a new set of rules including a “Freestyle” and “Battle” round as well as the players being divided into East and West teams. From what I saw majority of people weren’t fond of the changes and the dunk contest was just weird.
There were a couple good dunks last night in particular John Wall’s but for the most part the contest fell flat. People longed for the old format and the days of real dunks, less theatrics. One person who also wasn’t fond of the contest last night was Tracy McGrady.
He posted a picture with him and former teammate Vince Carter with the caption “LOL they called that a “Dunk Contest”?
Though he didn’t win, McGrady was part of the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest which also featured Vince Carter (Vinsanity), Steve Francis and Larry Hughes. The contest is known as the second best of all time only coming second to Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins in 1988.
Here’s a memory refresher:
Sidenote: Tracy McGrady later deleted the tweet. I wish he had stuck by it.
