Rapper Tyler The Creator arrested for starting a riot at the SXSW festival.
Tyler The Creator was arrested Saturday afternoon at an airport in Texas.
The arrest stems from an incident that happened at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Tyler The Creator, whose real name is Tyler Okonma, was booked for inciting a riot at his concert on Thursday at Scoot Inn.
The Class A Misdemeanor charges come after Okonma “encouraged behavior causing an immediate danger and injury to persons,” APD said. The footage in the YouTube clip below shows Okonma encouraging the crowd who was kept out of a full capacity concert to break down the barricade which led to a riot. The incident got out of control once the crowd got past the employees blocking the entrance as trampling, pushing and punching occurred at the scene.
Tyler The Creator’s concert was cancelled the night before after a hit-and-run incident. A drunk driver crashed into a crowd resulting in the death of two people and 23 injured.
The Odd Future rapper and founder is being held in custody on a $3,500 bond.
