master-p-the-last-don Before all of the minimalist album covers (Pusha T’s ‘My Name Is My Name,’ 2 Chainz’ ‘B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time’, Drake’s ‘Nothing Was The Same’), there was a time, even now, when rappers would pack their album artwork with some of everything.

Almost coining this template was Pen & Pixel, a Houston, Texas-based graphics design firm, who created plenty of album artwork in the 1990s including much of Cash Money’s and No Limit’s early work.

Recently, the University of Houston acquired Pen & Pixel classic album art  collection as apart of their Digital Library.
