Walking Dead has risen to legendary status with its mid-season 4 premiere boasting 15.8 million viewers — edging out the Sochi Winter Olympics in viewership every week since. With Walking Dead’s steadfast fanbase secured, Robert Kirkman has now set his sights on his silver screen debut.
Air is a science fiction thriller produced by Kirkman, which will star Norman Reedus better known as Daryl Dixon — the badass crossbow wielding redneck from the Walking Dead series — as well as Oscar-nominated actor, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Amistad). The film will find Reedus in yet another post-apocalyptic world, this time paired with Hounsou as custodial workers in an underground cryogenic facility following a nuclear holocaust. Reedus and Hounsou will act as a caretakers of the cryogenically sleeping population who are responsible for restoring society. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ” they struggle to preserve their own sanity and lives while maintaining the extremely fragile environment of the last livable place on earth.”
Christian Cantamessa, who’s writing credits include Rockstar’s classic video games Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, not only co-wrote the script with Chris Pasetto but will also make his directorial debut with the film.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquistions is in final negotiations to acquire the low-budget thriller.
