In recent years, Walmart made quite a name for itself becoming the largest retailer of CDs in the United States but a suspected shift in consumer behavior has caused the retail chain to make some changes.
Billboard reports that Walmart plans to reduce the size of space devoted to CD sales by 40 percent. The retailer may also reduce selection proportionately.
Walmart will carry titles from huge, established artists, current and past. The changes will make it increasingly difficult for developing artists, especially without massive radio hits currently spinning, to get carried by the retailer.
The cutback is scheduled to take place in May and June.
