Red Bull Music Academy delves into the essence of what it takes to be a musician; from creative struggles to personal encounters to unexpected truths, this new documentary will easily enlighten Hip Hop fans in some way. Music lovers and artists alike will all enjoy this, as it covers not only processes, but the resulting music as well. These creatives prove that hard work does, indeed, pay off, and how the work being conducted behind the scenes often goes un-thought of.
The film, directed by Ralf Schmerberg and produced by Mind Pirates, features the likes of Brian Eno, Thundercat, Rakim, Erykah Badu, Q-Tip, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Bernie Worrell, Egyptian Lover, Steve Arrington, Tom Moulton and many more. Coincidentally, the visual also marks the 15th anniversary of the Red Bull Music Academy (Red Bull’s longest running cultural program).
Personally, I can never watch enough documentaries. Learning through the eyes of visionary-esque directors is something that has always captivated me. I hope more music fans find enjoyment in these films so they will continue to come out, as it seems they’ve slowly faded away.
