This past weekend, famous tennis player Serena Williams won the esteemed French Open trophy, against fellow talent Maria Sharapova in a score of 6-4. Williams’ last win was eleven years ago and she now obtains 16 major titles in the game of tennis!
After the game and when she was presented with the silver proof of her greatness, Williams proceeded to give her acceptance speech entirely (and impressively) in French to the crowd.
The iconic player went through a rough patch a few years back following an injury, but she proved that her passion and talent to deliver can arrive in spades. While her famous sister Venus was absent, she later celebrated with her other siblings Lyndrea and Isha Price and mother Oracene by the Eiffel Tower.
Watch the clip below, and there’s an English translation of her speech.
Congrats, Serena!

I had a dream when I was 10 years old that I would win the title here and talk to the crowd in French.
I love Paris. I spend a lot of time here. I live here. I practice here. I think I am a Parisian.
