Most every kid that went made it to junior high (sorry, Kentucky!) had to read “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Considered canon in the history of American literature, it paints a picture of growing up as an adolescent in the rural south in the mid-1900’s.
The enduring themes of racism and inequality run rife throughout the book and serve as metaphors for expression of injustice across races and worlds. Who better to explain its subtle racial themes than a ‘thug?’
The Thug-Notes site is relatively new. The Facebook page started on May 7. It already has just under a thousand likes and, judging by (unrelated?) Thug Kitchen its success will be bound solely by the amount of time it takes to churn out content and how long the commercials will be before the episodes start streaming.
Unlike Thug Kitchen, though, you at least get to see a black face to know that at least one black person is involved in Thug-Notes’ production. And if it’s gonna be based on Black American urban culture and lightly laced with ignorance, it’d be nice if Black Americans actually got to cash the checks. Watch below.
