Who is Haim? Haim is a Los Angeles rock band featuring sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim. Rounding out the lineup is drummer Dash Hutton, and together, the four members of Haim make music many have compared to Fleetwood Mac. Although Haim is making a name in America, they’re already huge in the U.K. and they ranked number one on the BBC’s Sound of 2013 poll. Their music “sounds like it was written on a lakeside retreat attended by Stevie Nicks, John Waite and En Vogue,” the U.K. newspaper the Guardian wrote in 2012, describing the band’s mix of classic rock and R&B. Haim’s debut album, “Days Are Gone,” dropped Sept. 30, 2013, on Polydor.

Who is Haim? Haim stem from a San Fernando Valley, Calif., family act, as Este (born in 1986), Danielle (born in 1989) and Alana (born in 1991) started out rocking with their mom and dad in Rockinhaim, a covers band that would play charity functions. Their father, Mordechai, played drums, while their mother, Donna, strummed along on guitar. Danielle and Este later joined forces for the Valli Girls before forming Haim, and while the all-girl group—inspired by Blondie, Queen and Pat Benetar—never made it big, they inked a deal with Columbia and appeared on the soundtrack for “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”
Who is Haim? They’re smart, talented sisters with eclectic tastes. After the Valli Girls disbanded, Haim began playing local California venues, but they didn’t really get going until Este graduated from UCLA and Danielle had done stints backing Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas of the Strokes. Haim first played the U.K. in November 2012, and in the influential rock magazine NME named “Forever,” the title track from their 2012 EP, the number four song of 2012. In America, Haim are managed by Jay Z’s Roc Nation, and throughout 2013, they garnered more buzz, collaborating with the likes of Kid Cudi and Major Lazer and appearing at such festivals as Glastonbury, where they performed with British legends Primal Scream.
Who is Haim? A group not about to suffer the kind of sibling in-fighting that ruined Oasis. “There is really no drama,” Alana told the NME. “We have been playing in a band since we were, like, five. If we were going to fall out and have our Oasis moment, it would have happened 10 years ago. The only time we ever have disagreements is when I want to borrow Danielle’s leather jacket and she doesn’t want to let me. That’s a fight.”
