Ciara continues to drop hints of what looks to be a great album for Atlanta-based performer this year. Following the single “Body Party” and the leak of “I’m Out” with Nicki Minaj came “Super Turnt Up”, a track she talked excitedly about on 106 & Park because it features her first time dabbling in rapping. Possibly influenced by boyfriend Future, the sound is also a revved up cut of her go-to crunkish-R&B beats.
Sometimes, our favorite R&B girls like to experience what their hip-hop counterparts do, and as fans got hyped about Ciara’s budding skills, the emcee bug also caught Brandy awhile back when she showed an interest in delving into her alter ego Bran’ Nu. Supported by one of her regular collaborators Timbaland, Brandy did two separated rap-tinged verses on Timbo’s Shock Value II album for “Meet in Tha Middle” and the bonus track “Symphony”.
Bran’ Nu’s foray into rap was only for a short time, which disappointed her core fanbase. You could hear the slight leverage of many MC Lyte listening sessions in Brandy’s self-assured gruff and swiftness, as Ciara remains girly and low-pressured on her bars.
Listen to both tracks below and compare and enjoy the hip-hop capabilities of two major R&B favorites.
