A 28-year-old woman from New Hampshire learned the hard way that lying never pays off — especially when you’re lying to a cop.

Carley Williams was cruising down the thruway when she was pulled over by Trooper Cummings, who clocked her at 82 mph. Williams quickly went into a hysterical fit and claimed she was simply speeding to get to her dying father’s side. Appealing to her emotional state, Trooper Cummings allowed Williams to leave, but his decision soon left him questioning himself. So, he decided to do a little investigative work and discovered that Williams’ “dying father” was already very much dead, having passed away in 2008. Cummings also learned that Williams was driving with suspended license plates.

The trooper headed over to Williams’ home on Sunday with a copy of her father’s obituary and a pair of silver cuffs. She has been charged with driving after suspension of registration and speeding.
