UFC may have some competition on its hands when it comes to 24/7 access and digital content. At this year’s CES Show in Vegas, WWE announced their 24/7 streaming and video on demand service. Fans of WWE can expect the network to go live starting February 24. The streaming and on demand service will include WWE, WCW, and ECW programs and a collection of old events and a handful of new original programming .
What will this all access cost?
The service will only cost WWE fans $9.99 a month with a commitment of six months though WWE. A competitive price rivaling UFC’s “Fight Pass“which was announce before UFC 168 a month ago.
To add value to their new streaming service, WWE Network partnered with MLB Advanced Media to build a base of fans all while cross promoting for each other. Content for the service will be available though a number of options which include WWE.com, WWE app, both iOS and Android devices (sorry Windows and Blackberry fans, you’re left out again), most major video game consoles (PS3,PS4, Xbox 360 and coming soon to Xbox One.) To fans delight their will be new original programs that center around the wrestlers in pre and post shows for fan favorites RAW and Smackdown, a reality show featuring 80s’ wrestlers ”Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper called Legends House. The only downside to the network is fans of WWE in countries like Canada and the UK will have to hold on until later this year or as late as 2015.
The concept of the WWE Network has been in the works for nearly three years. The original launch date was slated for April 1, 2012, but those plans were quietly put on the back burner as the network struggled to secure deals with cable providers.
The WWE had the network in the works for almost three years. WWE wanted to launch the network back on April 1, 2012 but finding a partner for the network put a few hiccups in their plans, as cable networks didn’t see eye to eye with Vince McMahon and co. Will the new 24/7 access network prove to be a winner with fans? Only time will tell.
