Apparently, looking for something to snack on after blowing through a marijuana cigarette aka ‘ having the munchies’ isn’t a figment of one’s imagination. According to a recent study, researches have found that the active drug, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) heightens taste and smell, the source of the munchies.
Giovanni Marsicano of the University of Bordeaux and other neuroscientists studied mice to figure out the reason why people go rummaging through kitchen cupboards in search of food after getting high.
In the study, some mice were genetically engineered with THC while others weren’t. Both sets of mice were placed around almond oil and banana, and while both sets sniffed the scents of the foods, researchers found that the THC-dosed mice sniffed for longer periods of time. In addition, the mice that was infused with THC also ate more in comparison to their counterparts.
