YouTube’s making moves this year
2013′s proved to be an interesting year for YouTube. Earlier in 2013, it was announced that YouTube views would contribute to the criteria used by Billboard for the Hot 100 charts that track the top songs in the country every week. Today, they made another announcement, involving a music award show that they’ve now instituted. The show will air live on YouTube on November 3rd, and take place at Pier 36 in New York City. Among the many participants, the seldom showcased Eminem and a resurgent Lady Gaga will both take the stage, along with a carefully chosen array of YouTube sensations and Jason Schwartzman, who will host the affair.
YouTube vice president of marketing, Danielle Tiedt, had this to say about the upcoming event.
Our point is to celebrate YouTube’s role in the music ecosystem. If you think about how most of us encounter music, it’s usually on YouTube, whether it’s stars like Miley Cyrus and her VMA performance or her new Wrecking Ball video, or musicians like Lindsey (Stirling), who broke thanks to our site.
Awards will be decided using a system of viewer voting, and according to reports a total of seven will be handed out. Stay tuned for more details, including how fans can gain access to see the event live at Pier 36th on November 3rd.
