It seems that in recent days, more and more dirt that police are doing is coming to the light. The latest discovery is alarming to many and involves the police of North Miami Beach. It was recently discovered that some use the mugshots of Black suspects for target practice at the shooting range. The shady practice of the North Miami police was uncovered by Sgt. Valerie Deant, a clarinet player for the Florida Army National Guard’s 13th Army Band. She was recently with some of her comrades at a shooting range for their annual weapons qualifications training. They found the North Miami sniper squad in there shooting at the mugshots and were angered. Deant was even more outraged because one of the mugshots belonged to her brother, Woody Deant. Woody was arrested for a drag race, in which two people were killed 15 ears ago. He was one of six mugshots the officers used. “There were like gunshots there,” said Valerie. “And I cried a couple of times.” She showed the bullet-riddled mugshot to Woody who was 18 when the picture was taken. “The picture actually has like bullet holes,” said Woody. “One in my forehead and one in my eye. …I was speechless,” added Valerie. It seems that, in light of all of issues that Americans are having with the police nowadays, the police would make a real effort to try to understand and be more compassionate towards the population they serve.
