On social media, the topic of leaked nudes is common. Oftentimes, an upset man will post naked pictures of women they were involved with in an attempt to shame her. That is a slippery subject because, it is the view of many that if the pictures were sent to that person, he has the freedom to expose them. However, it’s a different story if you expose nudes that were never intended for you to see. California Highway Patrol officer, Sean Harrington did just that, but has been granted probation for his transgressions. Harrington took nudes saved in the phones of women who were DUI suspects and spread them around to his fellow officers. On Tuesday, he pleaded no contest to the charges of unauthorized access to a computer and copying computer data for sending the photos to himself. Harrington was charged with stealing photos from two women’s phones, but prosecutors claim that he admitted to stealing nudes four to six times over the last few years and sending them to his buddies, in interviews. As a part of his plea deal, he will serve three years of formal felony probation and a 180-day suspended jail sentence. He is also required to speak at a community violence solutions class to inform everyone of what he did. If Harrington had gone to trial, he would have faced three years and eight months in prison. “You had a person who was in a position of public trust. We as the public gave him a certain amount of power,” said prosecutorread more

These days, when you engage in unprotected sex with someone, you are literally taking your life into your own hands. There are a number of STD’s out there and not everybody is aware of their status. However, there are people who are aware of their infection and selfishly go around having sex with unsuspecting people, infecting them. One such case happened recently, when a police officer spread the HIV virus to women over a span of seven years. Ervans Saintclair, an officer of the Green Acres police department in West Palm Beach, FL has known that he was HIV positive since 2007. However, he has been lying to women for years about this fact. His status came to light last year when a woman who he had been dating for a year and had unprotected sex with multiple times learned of his infection. He told her that he had just learned that he had HIV. However, he was caught in the lie when another woman came forward with paperwork showing that Saintclair knew of his status years in advance. That woman was unable to press charges due to the Statute of Limitations, but she brought a list to police of women that Saintclair had sex with. Detectives made a call to Saintclair during the case, in which he bragged about all of the women he bedded, but lied when asked if he had HIV. In paperwork dating to 2007, Saintclair was notified of his status and was repeatedly warned not to have sex with anybody.read more

There are plenty of examples of police getting privileged treatment in the eyes of the law. In many sketchy stories, we’ve seen police officers be let off the hook for a number of seemingly illegal acts over the past months. A bizarre story is coming out of Tampa where a woman says that a police officer and his buddy randomly fired an AK-47 at her home. However, nobody was charged with anything. Dawn Bryan thought that the noise of something hitting her house was the goat in her backyard. That notion was dispelled when the window in her toddlers room shattered. According to Bryan and a police report, the noise was coming from neighbors firing an AK-47 in the direction of the house. The neighbors were Scott Radford, a firefighter and Paul Adee, a Hillborough County sheriff’s detention deputy. The latter’s father is a major and supervisor at the jail. Even with punctured spots on the house and the shattered window from rounds, no one was charged with a crime. An AK-47 casing that laid on the porch was never collected as evidence. Bryan concludes that the shooters statuses as a firefighter and a deputy are the reason that no charges were filed. “They got favorable treatment,” said Bryan. “My house got blown up by an AK-47. I have to tell you, I was hysterical at the time.” The shooters claim that they did not intend to target Bryan’s home and were not aware that the bullets would travel that far. Bryan counted nine holes in theread more

The case of George Zimmerman and his killing of Trayvon Martin shed light of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” laws. Also in Florida, the case of Marissa Alexander brought more attention to the laws, after she lost and was sent to jail for firing warning shots. However, Judge James Daniel showed some leniency to her today, allowing her to serve the rest of her three year sentence at home on house arrest. This whole ordeal started for Marissa Alexander in 2010 nine days after giving birth to her daughter. Her estranged husband, Rico Gray, threatened and assaulted her in her home. She retrieved a gun from outside and fired two shots in the direction of Gray and his sons. Though Alexander plead that the shots were warning shots to scare her aggressor, she convicted on felony charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison, the mandatory minimum for using a firearm. Marissa Alexander’s conviction was overturned on appeal. She accepted a plea deal as she was facing retrial that will put her on house arrest. She has served 1,095 days in jail, with the last 65 as part of her plea deal. When she is released, she will be under community control for two years, wearing a GPS ankle monitor. She will only be allowed to leave the house to go to work, church, family medical and dental appointments and to her children’s schools. The monitoring will cost $105 a week. The courtroom was filled with many supporters of Marissa Alexander, who applauded when the judge handed downread more
