For smugglers in Mexico, underground tunnels were constructed and have been used to pump drugs and people into the United States under the radar of the Border Patrol. Some smugglers decided to use some available technology, a drone, to smuggle six pounds of crystal meth into the States. The Mexican cartels have been using drones for surveillance, but it is believed they are behind the attempted drone smuggling. The device used was equipped with a GPS component to send it to a direct location. However, the drone was not suited to carry the six pounds of meth and crashed south of the U.S. border city of San Ysidro, California. The drone was found by police in Tijuana and the six pound haul is said to be worth about $48,000 on the streets of San Diego. DEA Special Agent Matt Barden said, “Once you get it across the border, that stuff’s like gold.” It was not the first time that a drone has been used to smuggle drugs into the country, but this latest incident raises concerns among law enforcement agents. “I would hate to belittle 6 pounds of meth. That’s like saying 6 pounds of heroin isn’t bad … but I think the big thing to look at is the fact that the cartels or drug traffickers from Mexico are using drones in their playbook,” said Barden. “My greater fear, beingread more

Yes, for a long time, the “hip hop police” and others have been monitoring the actions of rappers, specifically those who rap about thuggish activities. San Diego rapper, Tiny Doo learned that the hard way. He’s been sitting in prison for eight months and is facing 25 years to life for his lyrics. Tiny Doo (real name Brandon Duncan) has no criminal record and has never, as far as anyone knows, pulled a trigger against another person. However, he is facing nine counts of of criminal street gang conspiracy along with 14 others due to a statute in the California penal code. California Penal Code 182.5 makes it a felony “to participate in a criminal street gang, have knowledge that a street gang has engaged in criminal activity, or benefit from that activity.” Tiny Doo is seen as benefiting from street gang activity. Prosecutors allege that Tiny Doo and his crew blew up after a string of 2013 shootings in the city.
