Heroin is an epidemic that has been spreading for the last few years. Heroin is not new to the scene by any means, but from cities to small towns, task forces have been set up to try to combat heroin addiction and overdoses happening to all types of people, regardless of demographic. The drug made it on the mainstream radar after the tragic overdose death of renowned Academy Award winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman, but small dope has been ravaging communities long before that happened. Police in Delaware made a seemingly substantial arrest Tuesday that stopped a significant amount of heroin from getting into the hands of addicts in the area. Delaware State Troopers pulled over 32-year-old Davon Tucker from Paterson, NJ for speeding in the town of Milton. Officers noticed the smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and Tucker handed them a plastic zip of weed when asked about it. While conducting a car search, the police officers found a staggering 15,000 wax paper baggies of heroin in the trunk, said to be slightly bigger than a postage stamp. The officers valued the haul at $150,000. According to Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, this is among the biggest heroin busts that the state of Delaware has ever seen. Tucker is being held on multiple drug charges and it is not clear whether or not he has an attorney. With 15,000 baggies of heroin in the trunk, it’s safe to say that he’ll be sitting in somebody’s jail cell for a long time.

When Darren Wilson was cleared of any wrongdoing for the August slaying of Mike Brown in Ferguson, the Department of Justice stepped in to conduct its own investigation to see if the case is a civil matter. It was the hope of many that the family of Mike Brown may get some type of comeuppance for their loss in a case that was sketchy from beginning to end. However, those hopes may be dashed, as it is speculated the Department of Justice will not charge Wilson with anything. It is reported that the DOJ’s investigation into Mike Brown’s killing in Ferguson has not found enough evidence to charge Wilson and will not be moving forward with charges. The DOJ has made its decision based on an investigation by the FBI who joined local law enforcement agencies to interview over 200 people and analyze much of the same evidence as the grand jury that decided not to indict Wilson. However, the final report by the DOJ (who is also conducting an investigation into the overall track record of the Ferguson Police Department with minorities) has not been completed. The final decision lies in the hands of Attorney General Eric Holder, who is not expected to make a decision. He expected to announce his decision before leaving office in Spring. Attorney for the Brown family, Benjamin Crump said in a witness statement: “The family of Michael Brown Jr. will wait for official word from the Justice Department regarding whether or not any charges will be filed againstread more

Video has been released of the December 30th killing of Jerame Reid by Bridgeton, NJ police officer Braheme Days. The footage comes from the officers dash cam and shows that Red had his hands raised when Days shot him to death. Reid was the passenger in his friend’s blue Jaguar when they were pulled over by police for blowing through a stop sign. The situation turned up when Days claimed to find a gun in the glove compartment. It appears that Days does remove a gun from the vehicle. Days warned Reid several times that he will be shot, explicitly. He even warns Reid that he would die. Reid asked to be let out of the car. At this point, Days starts screaming that he was reaching for something. Reid exited the vehicle with his hands out in front of him. Nevertheless, Days fired on Reid about six times, killing him. The shooting sparked protest in Bridgeton and activists have asked that the case be transferred to the state atorney general. Walter Hudson of the National Awareness Alliance stated, “The video speaks for itself that at no point was Jerame Reid a threat and he possessed no weapon on his person. He complied with the officer and the officer shot him.” Reid may have a hard time getting justice due to his past. He spent 13 years in prison for shooting at police officers as a teen. He was also arrested last year for drug possession and obstruction. Days was one of the arresting officers in thatread more
