There is an interesting situation coming out of Miami, concerning a transgender person, transitioning into womanhood. Arrested in 2005 for the sexual assault of a female tourist, Harold Seymore has spent the last ten years in a Miami-Dade jails for men. However, Seymore did not serve time in general population. She was held in a single-person safety cell because of her transgender identity for protection. However, recently, a jury found Seymour guilty of the assault and sentenced her to 15 years in a female prison facility plus 10 years of probation. It took the jury just an hour to deliberate and find Seymore (a serial violent offender) guilty. However, Seymore looked much different than she did in 2005 when she was arrested. She heard her sentence to prison while wearing a dress. This is the first time that she’s ever done so in life, and a distinct contrast to the “tall lanky man” witnesses described. Seymore says that she was born with male and female reproductive organs and has chosen in recent years to transition into a woman. Seymore will be transferred to the state prison in the coming weeks where she’ll be evaluated. It is suspected that she may be housed away from the general population with fellow at-risk prisoners needing “protective management.” According to the Miami Herald, “By law, all transgender and intersex inmates are screened for their risk of sexual victimization or sexual abusiveness twice a year.” Before being sent away, Seymore told her victim, a 37-year old teacher from the Chicagoread more

It’s rare when enduring racism pays off, but it happened for seven workers at Matheson Trucking and Matheson Flight Extenders Inc. in Sacramento are now paid due to it. Ernie Duke, Mahamet Camara, Andre De Oliveira, Bemba Diallo, Salif Diallo and Macire Diarra, natives of the African nation of Mali along with White whistleblower, Dean Patricelli were the targets of racist bosses and for that, they were granted $15 million for discrimination at Matheson “in all phases of employment, including hiring, termination, conditions of employment, promotion, vacation pay, furlough, discipline, work shifts, benefits and wages.” The judge presiding presiding over the case found that the racist bosses separated the Black workers from the others in the company and reportedly called them “niggers” and “lazy, stupid Africans.” Patricelli was labeled as “the tribe’s assistant and lost his job for complaining about the treatment of his co-workers. “Basically, I did the right thing. This isn’t 1960 anymore,” said Patricelli. The lawsuit was filed in 2010. It notes work becoming unbearable when Leslie Carpa became station manager of Matheson in 2007 claiming he was “more openly hostile toward black employees.” The verdict “includes $13 million in punitive damages, $318,000 in back pay for workers who were fired for being black and another $650,000 for emotional distress,” dismissing Matheson’s attorney’s claim that the company “prides itself on hiring and employing a highly diverse workforce consisting of men and women of different races and cultures” The bosses at Matheson plan to appeal, but this case goes to show that you do not have to tolerate racist remarksread more
