Yet another story is coming out of Pennsylvania involving a police officer unnecessarily killing a person. However, this time, the officer stands accused of being high on cocaine while doing the deed. Allegheny County sheriff’s deputy Richard Dwyer was recently canned by the department after a drug test came back hot with the presence of cocaine after killing a suspect. He was part of a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force looking to apprehend rape suspect Leslie Sapp in Pittsburgh. Police claim that Sapp pulled out a pellet gun when they came for him and that is the reason he was fired upon. Dwyer was one of seven officers that fired. Dwyer’s attorney James Wydmar claims that there were trace amounts of cocaine found in Dwyer’s system, suggesting that he was not high when the incident took place. He claims that if his client’s blood was drawn, the test would come up clean. Dwyer is currently fighting to get his job back. Nevertheless, Dwyer could be charged with manslaughter if it turns out that if investigators find that the cocaine in his system was enough to impair his judgement. Granted, Sapp was an accused rapist and deserved to be punished for the horrible crime if he was guilty. However, it was not the police’s place to kill him.
